Configuring Genie to Send and Receive MMEx Messages

Genie can be configured so that it can be used as an email client to send and receive MMEx messages.

MMEx users can configure Genie so that they can send and receive MMEx messages within the practice management system. By undertaking the following simple steps, you will be able to configure Genie so that the program integrates with MMEx.

Check to make sure you have the MMEx Client downloaded onto your machine. To check if you have installed the client on your individual machine go to the Windows tool bar at the bottom of the screen. If you see the following  symbol near the clock, you have installed the Client (when checking, you may need to extend the toolbar by clicking on the < symbol on the bottom right hand side of the screen to show hidden icons). If you don’t have the MMEx Client installed, follow the instructions in MMEx Technical Help Sheet 6: Installing the MMEx Client, before undertaking the steps outlined below.

Open up Genie on your computer. Select the Open menu from the top tool bar, and then click on the Email option.

If you use Genie to send emails via another email account, you will need to add a new account for MMEx messages, as you can only send MMEx messages via an MMEx account. To do so, go first to the accounts icon on the email page and create a new account, called MMEx. Next click on the arrow next to the account icon and select the MMEx account.

Remember, if you are using more than one email account within Genie, you must tell Genie to use the MMEx account whenever you want to send a message to another MMEx user.

In the Email page, select the preference option. Enter your name, your MMEx email address and in the POP3 Server section, enter the numbers 127.0.0.1 (or the details of the server where your MMEx Client has been located) and then enter the details of your MMEx account.

Repeat the same information for the SMTP server, making sure you tick the Use authentication box.

You may also wish to enter your signature.

If you access your MMEx mail remotely and would like to leave a copy of all received mail on the server, go to the Details Tab and make sure the Leave a copy on the Server box has been ticked.

When you have finished, click on the Save button.

To test the configuration click on the Get Mail Icon. This should import new messages on your MMEx system. You can also compose an MMEx message to yourself and see if you recieve it via Genie (this may take a few minutes to run from Genie into MMEx and back again).
